Semaglutide

Treatment Overview

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that may be incorporated into physician-supervised weight management programs.

Contraindications

MTC, MEN2, pregnancy, and prior serious hypersensitivity reactions. Use caution with pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetic retinopathy, and kidney disease.

Common Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, reduced appetite, and fatigue.

Serious Safety Information

Pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, acute kidney injury, severe dehydration, allergic reactions, and worsening diabetic retinopathy.

Boxed Warning

Thyroid C-cell tumors were observed in rodents. Human risk has not been established.

Potential Program Goals

Healthy weight management, appetite regulation, healthier eating behaviors, long-term lifestyle support, and improvement of certain weight-related health risks in appropriate patients.

Tirzepatide

Treatment Overview

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist that may be incorporated into physician-supervised weight management programs.

Contraindications
